43 days all alone in Arctic
02/21/2012 - KORTRIJK - Kortrijkzaan Beernaert Hogan (54) leaves for Canada on 26 February.

43 days long he will walk to the magnetic North Pole. Without supplies and without rescue plan. Then he returns, and he does the whole trip alone. He has not enough money in order to be picked up.
Hogan Beernaert is not his first toe.Maar what he wants to achieve defies a little imagination. The Kortrijkzaan is the first Belgian to the magnetic North Pole on skis achieve alone. Without supplies. Nobody did that for him. In fact, due to lack of sponsorship, he must return in total 720 kilometers. That would be a first for polar expeditions, and certainly for Belgium.

Beernaert got Dixie Dansercoer are pulka, cradle to luggage to bind them. His warm clothing and food are sponsored. But search for financial resources was not evident. Worse still was the paperwork to get the necessary permits. That made him almost quit.
The Kortrijkzaan is perhaps his last great record of service to his age. Eighteen months was preceded by preparation. "I'd rather take this trip, but by the death of my father that expedition did not go through. And you do not just start again. Fortunately, I can fall back on my experience from previous expeditions. You can leave nothing to chance. The temperature ranges from -35 to -50 degrees. I have to trek back and forth because I do not have budget to let me pick. Yet I'm sure, "he says.

Well equipped

"I take supplies up to 45 days. I grind 135 kilograms necessary baggage, including special diet and medication, "he says.
"At certain times I will take into account a moving ice landscape. Sometimes the ice five feet to learn. I must also watch out for polar bears. Some males measure up to three meters. I hope not to get in trouble if I'm halfway. Then there is much chance that the emergency until two days later shows up, "continues Beernaert. "A satellite phone is my only means of communication. I call once a week to my home to save battery life.
That way my wife Silvie keep everything on one site. The enchanting beauty of the landscape makes happy lot. I am grateful that many people I can do. "

Beernaert departs on 26februari to Resolute Bay, the northernmost point of Canada. His pulka since last Friday on the spot. After a few days acclimatization, he started his journey on March 1. In his previous expedition, he was missing one week because his satellite phone went out.
